Heya! I don't mean to start up this argument again on her page so I'm gonna post this here. To say that good art does not have to be digital nor do you need amazing equipment!
For example, here is some amazing work in paint: [link]
You don't have amazing traditional paints or markers? Here's is a giraffe drawn with crayons: [link]
Ergo, you can accomplish good art with the most simplest of tools, it just takes time and dedication.
Also it depends if you go to a decent art school. These days there are a lot of for profit that sometimes won't even look at a portfolio. All they care about is pushing students through and getting the funding. A decent art school with select it's students. They don't have to be 100% perfect or else what will be the point of the schooling but they expect you to have base knowledge.
At the end of the day there are lots of groups out there who will accept anyone and hey that's a good thing but we're going for something different. As someone working towards a career in art I put everyone through the same filters I would put myself through. We try to search out the best because sometimes really good art gets lost in the tags. Y'know how you can only go a certain amount of pages forward? We try to give them a spotlight. If we let everything in it would just become a swamp like the tags. I am always open for giving helpful critique if you wonder why something did not get in.
Yes sometimes feeling get hurt but we can't always tread around people like they're made of glass. If this happens nobody will be able to accept any form of rejection. I think that coming to terms that we need to improve is not a bad thing at all.
There is a horrible mentality on da that rejection or critique means it is an insult but it truly is not! If I were happy with where I was a year ago I wouldn't have made it to where I was now. It pushes us to strive harder and further.
I don't see what's so bad about that.

I wasn't aware that was an argument, but okay...

I have colored pencils, but if you look in my gallery, I'm not exactly what you would call talented even with them...

I went to the top one in the southern hemisphare, actually. (Or second best  I forget which) (that's not me bragging, that's actually the title it's given XD)

Well, I will admit a critique is always good, provided it isn't just someone saying mean things. (Eg: "Lol, that was so bad it frightened my mom so much she cried" "THAT'S your realism? Erase it immedietly and don't catch me seeing it again" "You'll never get anywhere in life with that art" "you're a rippoff, I wouldn't get your art unless it was free" - and yes those are actual things said) However, everyone has different styles of art. Take Matthew Gray Gubler :iconmatthewgraygublerplz: for eg. His art is hardly what you would call good, but it's amazingly good for that style of art, and art you think is good, others might think isn't that good. Adventure Time is also what some would call great art, others would call terrible art. It's all relative to the indevidual, and that's what makes it unfair, having one person's opinion dictate what is "good" and "bad"

That's because it takes practise to become good at something. It takes dedication to push through the down parts and a high level is something you should see as an aspiration. The willingness to practise is what separates the levels of art. I've seen men without the use of their hands make art better than guys who do, I've seen kids draw better than 30 year olds. The difference is not the time that has passed but how much practise they've put in that time. Someone who draws every day for 10 years will be better then someone who drew once a week for 10 years.

I know people can say harsh things, I've had it said about me too. I didn't just start where I am now, I too used to scribble stickmen and draw birds as v's. However this is what you should realise, these people are dicks and you should just forget about them and move on. If you let them stop you you'll never get better.

I can't say I know Gubler's art but let's look at Adventure Time. It is heavily stylised yes but it is quite clear that there is an understanding of anatomy. Understanding anatomy and breaking it down is very different from drawing without any understand of anatomy and character design. Plus being an animation you can tell straight off just how fluid and well done it is.
